Welcome to Visit-Manningtree

Places to see and visit
in Manningtree

As we go back to visit and things change we will expand what to look out for and enjoy. If you get there before us why not contact us and tell us your experiences.

The High Street
Take a wander along the High Street but be sure to look up on occassions. The many Geogian fronted buildings hide their true Medieval roots. The White Hart and The Crown both sport original coaching arches and not forgetting the traditional market square where the sculpture of the Manningtree Ox now hangs, made famous by William Shakespeare.

The Beach
Manningtree Beach is always a lovely place to sit and enjoy the view up and down the river and across to the suffolk shoreline.

South Street
It's worth taking a short stroll up South Street to see many of the old cottages and the green where it's said Matthew Hopkins carried out some of his infamous witch tests.

Wherry Corner
This is the sweeping S bend that takes you from the High Street at the Crown down to the waters edge. The archway in the corner of the road opposite the Crown is the the site of the original town blacksmith. Follow the road and the view as the buildings open up to the river never fails to impress whatever the weather.
