Walks - Around Manningtree

Walk - Mistley Church
Approximate Distance – 2.5 miles

Leaving the small car park by Mistley Church follow the footpath between the churchyard and the burial ground (Eileen Jackson Path) to Mistley Green. Walk along the boundary of the green, keeping on your right to the track which becomes a footpath past West Lodge. Just before you reach the fence around EDME Maltings take the path to the right (the Essex Way) and go up the steep steps to the tunnel under the railway, down the other side and then follow the path across the pasture to the kissing gate on Green Lane. Leave the Essex Way here and turn left down the lane until you reach Harwich Road and then take the path to right which leads to Middlefield Road and follow the road around to the right, cross the small green at the end and gain the footpath across the field by the power line. At the path T-Junction turn right and follow the path across the pasture and field towards Dairy House at the top of the rise. Just past Dairy House drive bear right back on to Green Lane near Oldhall and then shortly turn left down Church Lane, and under the railway to return to the car park by the church.

Walk - Lawford Church
Approximate Distance – 2 miles

From the car park at Lawford Church and with you back to the church take the right-hand footpath through the kissing gate, across the pasture and through another kissing gate and turn left down the drive from Lawford Hall. Turn right upon reaching Dedham Road and follow this road until it bears right at the top of the hill. This section is part of the Essex Way, but care should be taken when walking along the road as it is quite narrow with some blind bends and no pavement. At the top of the hill take the signposted footpath on the left, through the gates, and follow the drive from Broom Knolls until it makes a sharp bend to the right where you should take the footpath on the left. Where the path enters the field, do not carry straight on but turn right, following the permissive path along the hedge, over the stile by the electricity pylon and continue down the path alongside the orchard until you reach the A137 Harwich Road. Take care here as the path opens straight onto the road. Cross the road and turn left along Garden City and then follow the pavement until you reach the junction of Dedham Road just before the King’s Arms pub. Cross over to the junction and take the signposted footpath on the right through the spinney, along the edge of the field and back to the church car park.

Why not try another walk....
